Steam Cleaning Coils
TRADITIONAL CLEANING METHODS
Chemical cleaners are the industry standard. These cleaners are typically acid or alkali based. Using these cleaners, at best, will cause long term effects on the coils with repeated usage. If the coils are not rinsed off with large quantities of water for an extended amount of time after using the coil cleaner, damage can occur very quickly. Aluminum fins will become brittle and fall off. The heat transfer process is severely affected, shortening the life off the unit and it's operating efficiency.
WHY CHOOSE STEAM CLEANING?
Steam cleaning is the natural & economical choice for coil cleaning that is chemical free and totally GREEN. Steam melts away coil-clogging debris, boosting air flow & cooling capacity, while sanitizing the coil. Steam cleaning can be used to clean heat exchangers (heating and cooling coils). To sum it up, the wet steam process makes it possible to effectively remove dust and associated bio-film lodged deep in the fins. This process saves labor and materials, is chemical free, cleans deeper and better, kills and removes bacterial and fungal growth and sterilizes the coils in the process. The final product affords increased heat transfer efficiency and reduces the energy needed to move the air across the coils.
WHY CLEAN AIR CONDITIONING COILS?
Here is an example:
Take a look at a 10 ton air conditioning system operating for an average cooling season of 1,500 hours. When the coils are clean, it will cost approximately $1,650 to operate for the season, given a typical Kw/hr cost and equipment SEER (efficiency). However, when the condenser coil becomes dirty, the six-month cost of operation escalates to $2,268 . . . a 37% increase! By comparison, if the condenser coil on this unit were kept clean, a savings of $618 could be realized . . . a savings of about $62 per ton. If you multiply your total building tonnage by $62, you can see what the savings would be.
